A properly-recognized Sicilian chef arrested with drugs at his household justified their presence by saying he was hunting for “new flavours” for modern cuisine, Italian media have reported.

Officers say they located a pair of two-metre tall marijuana plants and 500 grams of Indian hemp at chef Carmelo Chiaramonte’s household in Trecastagni, a village at the foot of Mount Etna.

They also mentioned they located cannabis-flavoured wine, olives, coffee and tuna.

The 50-year-old chef, who has been released pending trial, told police he was an “agro-meals consultant for third millennium cuisine”.

Chiaramonte also mentioned he was “researching new flavours”.

Well-known on his native island, the chef was recognized for his cuisine at the Katane Palace Hotel restaurant in Catania. He then created his name as a host on an Italian culinary Television show.

He has held shows all more than Italy on “the history of generate and the tradition of Sicilian agriculture”, the regional every day La Sicilia mentioned on Saturday. A single of his shows is named Immoral Recipes and Aphrodisiac Foods, the newspaper mentioned.
