Deadline Looms For College Boards To Let Healthcare Marijuana In Public Schools

Public schools across Florida will have to have a policy in spot by the finish of the year permitting students to use health-related marijuana on campus, or they will threat losing some state funding.

The 2017 law implementing health-related marijuana across the state needs all college districts to have a policy defining how students can take the drug on campus. But some college districts have been slow in letting youngsters take it at college.

Now, the state has set a December 31 deadline for districts to establish a policy, or they could threat losing state revenue. The state set an October 18th deadline for districts to inform the state if they currently have a policy in spot.

“Although the region of law is reasonably new, ample time has passed for districts to adopt compliant access policies,” a memo to neighborhood college boards says.

There’s no encouraged policy, but the state did share Volusia County’s as an instance. It lets caregivers bring and administer health-related marijuana to students on campus, but college personnel can not retailer the drug or enable give it.

The Lake County College Board voted on the concern this week, and Marion County expects to take up the concern subsequent month.
