Producers who want to develop hemp in 2020 but reside in a state that does not presently have a system can now apply for federal licenses.
The Agricultural Advertising and marketing Service of the U.S. Division of Agriculture (USDA) is accepting license applications from producers whose states or tribes do not submit plans for approval.
The agency issued hemp guidelines in October but delayed acceptance of person applications till now to enable time for states and tribal governments to submit their plans very first.
Federal licenses are not obtainable in states that have laws banning industrial increasing of hemp, such as Idaho, Mississippi, New Hampshire and South Dakota.
Farmers in states or tribes with authorized hemp regulations are anticipated to enroll in these applications.
The USDA will not accept person license requests from farmers in these states or tribes that currently have submitted a state program or have a draft production program pending USDA approval.
The USDA accepts license applications year-round. Licenses are excellent for 1 calendar year.
