Police probe as £10k cannabis plants destroyed in house fire

Police are investigating after a £10,000 cannabis haul was destroyed in a severe house fire in Birmingham.

Around ten plants were uncovered as officers attended the blaze in Bryn Arden Road, Yardley.

The force was alerted by firefighters tackling the incident just after 1.40pm on Sunday afternoon, November 29.

Officers said they also found growing equipment alongside the burned plants inside the loft.

A dramatic image showed thick plumes of smoke billowing from the roof of the semi-detached property as fire crews brought the flames under control.

No one was believed to have been injured and West Midlands Police is continuing to make enquiries.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: “We were alerted by colleagues in the fire service to a fire at a home in Bryn Arden Road, Yardley at just after 1.40pm yesterday (Sunday 29 November).

“Officers found about 10 cannabis plants and growing equipment in the loft, which had been destroyed by the fire.

“No one was reported injured and our enquiries continue.”

Three fire crews, around fifteen firefighters, attended the house fire.

Speaking at 4pm on Sunday, a spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We were called at 1.32pm to a severe fire in a semi-detached roof. Crews went into the house with breathing apparatus.
